Our new school apostolate is in Makati City, named after our Dominican Saint “Colegio de Santa Rosa”. Makati City is the Philippines’ financial hub or the Financial Capital of the Philippines, First class highly urbanized city in the National Capital Region of the Philippines.
For us, who are used to live a simple lifestyle, it is a big challenge on how to adapt to an unfamiliar kind of environment, that we are called to be lights to this highly-developed place. But when I started to know the place where we are, the impression and fear that I have slowly disappear. The students are respectful, and even the teachers will always ask for our hands to bless. It reminds me of the people of Timor especially the children who will hold your hand to bless. The students and teachers came from different places not Makati alone.
However, a few months back, we went to visit our parish, there I discovered that there are also many poor people in our parish, where we can extend our service to both the rich and the poor.
The simplicity and the love of Christ as was in the life of St. Rose of Lima is an inspiration to the students and teachers. It is tangible that the school community is in a continued pursuit to live it every day: They said “Love and share Christ”
