Christmas is openness, novelty, nostalgia, surprise.
At Christmas, our deep desires as people emerge strongly, eager to strengthen and expand the bonds of coexistence and communion. Christmas songs and carols, the popular festival… all of this brings out the most intimate feelings of the human heart.
Even in this Christmas atmosphere in which we find ourselves, my life must continue to be written and told, because I need to change, move forward, and not just survive and enjoy the present moment. Life goes on, the struggle is not over, jokes and laughter, joy, sadness, ups and downs, are also part of our reflection on this Christmas day.
My current present, here, with our sisters in Barañáin, Pamplona, is to celebrate Christmas with joy, and it is different every year, in a unique way. The sisters prepare a Nativity scene in their room and put their own Christmas poster or a greeting card on the same Nativity theme on their door… it is a pleasant surprise for me, because every country, every place has its own culture and style. With these new details, I adapt and learn. The experience I am living is wonderful and I will never forget it.
The Christmas holidays bring with them many and precious values: family, children, joy, the desire for peace and a new year. But without the central value: Christ among us, everything can be reduced to simple details that do not nourish hope or change that improves us.
Although we are in a joyful period of the year, in the spirit of all are the complicated months that we have just gone through: the death of so many of our sisters.
Despite everything, we put a lot of love and dedication into making these days special and pleasant for our sick. Because even in the midst of difficulties, Christmas has also come to our “home”, the infirmary.
I wish you a Christmas full of joy and blessings!
