In Lima from May 8th to 10th 2019, we had the 8th National Meeting of Kawsay Network Peru “Consecrated life for a society without human trafficking”, where 39 congregations participated, among them our Missionary Dominican of the Rosary. The Kawsay network was created on October 23rd, 2010 and it is part of the permanent commissions of CRP having as objective to fight against human trafficking. Resources and actions of consecrated life are assembled to sensitize people about human trafficking in the different ranges of society to prevent more people to be involved and to assist those who are already implicated.
In 2006 German National Council was launched a campaign against sexual tourism during the 2006 FIFA World Cup, achieving the involvement of German government directly. However, despite all this effort, it is estimated that more than 40.000 women from East Europe and Africa moved to Germany during the World Cup through sexual exploitation networks. The story repeated in 2010 FIFA World Cup, when South African government drove a campaign against sexual exploitation, focusing especially on the high possibilities of HIV infection. Once again, tens of thousands of women moved to South Africa, especially minors. During 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil the focus of the government campaign was on preventing sexual exploitation of minors. Likewise, during the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016 the focus of the city and the country government was on fighting human trafficking. Finally, six months before the Summer Youth Olympics 2018 in Buenos Aires, a lawmaker presented a law that allowed the government to launch a campaign against human trafficking during the Olympics.
